Reflections
Reflections
Reflections are a key component of CAS. They give you an opportunity to think about your experiences and what you have taken away from them. Reflections also provide evidence of completing the learning outcomes.
You will record your reflections in ManageBac. These are personal and will only be read by your advisor and the CAS coordinator.
Your reflections are about quality not quantity. You will complete a reflection for each CAS experience and Project. If your CAS experience is on-going, you will complete the reflection upon completion, if you have a specific experience, or an aha moment! Significant moments of reflection may be when you master a skill, discover something about yourself, confront a challenge, and/or have an emotional response to an experience.
Your reflections must include four parts:
-
Describe what happened: retell your memorable moments, identify what was important or influential, what went well or was difficult, obstacles and successes.
Example: How did this experience reflect my personal ideas and values?
-
Express your feelings: share emotional responses to your experiences
Examples: How did I feel about the challenge?
What happened that prompted particular feeling?
-
Generate ideas: rethink or reexamine your choices and actions to increase awareness about yourself and situations
Examples: Why did I make this choice?
What choices might have resulted in different feelings and outcomes?
In what ways am I being challenged to think differently about myself and others?
-
Ask questions: what was discovered about people, the process or issues
Examples: What issues do I want to know more about?
-
Learning outcomes: explain how they were addressed
Examples: How did you complete the learning outcome(s)?
