SPCA

Volunteers are welcome 7:30am to 1:00pm seven days a week, times subject to change on holidays. Parents coming with volunteers who are 15 years old or younger will need to stay with their children the entire time they are at the shelter as we just do not have enough available staff to stay with the children.

 

Honolulu Zoo

High school students assist in the Keiki Zoo. You must commit to 3 months or more. 

 

Monk Seal Foundation

You will need to fill-out a questionnaire and they will match you with volunteer opportunities.

 

 
Children
 

HCAP

By volunteering with the Ha Initiative: A Creative STEM After-School Program, you can make a big impact in your community! Volunteers provide individualized attention to students and assist the teacher in an after-school classroom setting. Volunteers help with homework, hands on science experiments, and can pitch in when our Exploration Centers compete in the First Lego League robotics competitions every year, October through December.

 

Read Aloud America

Volunteers read aloud to children at RAP sessions and mingle with parents and children in an informal, relaxed setting. Interested volunteers may also provide help in the office, completing office tasks, preparing RAP materials, sorting books, etc. RAP is no-stress. Sessions are positive, relaxed, and fun for parents, teachers, volunteers, and above all - children.

Access Surf

AccesSurf is a nonprofit creating community based programs for anyone with a disability to enjoy the water!

We have a range of areas that we need volunteers to help us keep our programs a success. Set up, surfing, assisted swim, water transfer, water safety, check in, equipment check out, food area, equipment maintenance and teardown.

 

Waikiki Aquarium -Invasive Algae Cleanups

Work with staff at the Aquarium to remove invasive algae from the ocean. You can be in the water or on land. See website for more information.

 

Paepae o He'eia
Paepae o He’eia relies heavily on a dedicated and enthusiastic volunteer base to get much of the restoration and rehabilitation work completed. The work is physically rigorous but very rewarding. Saturday Community Workdays tasks include moving rock and coral, filling buckets, hauling floating barges through the water, cutting/pulling out invasive mangrove, invasive limu removal, trash pickup, and reconstruction of the kuapā. 
 
Ka Papa Lo'i O Kanewai
First Saturdays are open to anyone in the community looking for an opportunity to experience traditional farming methods, converse with Hawaiian Language speakers, talk story with practitioners, ku‘i ‘ai, ku‘i ka imu, and enjoy the day with family and friends.

 

Permablitz Hawaii

Permablitz is an informal gathering involving a day on which a group of people come together to achieve the following: Create or add to edible gardens where someone lives, share skills related to permaculture and sustainable living, build community networks and have fun!

 

Sustainable Coastlines

If you would like to host your own beach cleanup, but have little or no budget available, no worries. Here’s a checklist to help you run your own event. We can also provide reusable rubbish sacks and gloves. Simply let us know how many people you are catering for and we can make arrangements. 

 

Plastic Free Hawaii

Kōkua Hawai‘i Foundation’s Plastic Free Hawai‘i program provides resources, tools, and trainings to educate schools, business partners, and community members on the environmental and health benefits of going plastic free to minimize the consumption of single-use plastics in our islands. You can work towards making LJA a Plastic Free Hawai‘i School.

 

3R's

3R's School Recycling Program empowers students to engage and educate their school community about the 3R’s (reduce-reuse-recycling). The program supports on-campus recycling efforts by working with schools to strategize collection and redemption options and hosts bi-monthly Aloha ʻAina Recycling Drives at select 3R's participating schools across O'ahu, with host schools receiving proceeds from recycled material.

 

ʻĀina In Schools

ʻĀINA In Schools is a farm to school initiative that connects children to their local land, waters, and food to grow a healthier Hawaiʻi. In addition to encouraging the use of locally grown fruits and vegetables in school meals and snacks, the program includes standards-based nutrition, garden, and compost curricula that empower children to grow their own food and make wise food decisions, and reduce waste. ʻĀINA In Schools also provides field trips to local farms, chef cooking demonstrations in classrooms, as well as waste reduction, garden, and cooking educational opportunities for families and community members.

Lunalilo Home 

Individuals and groups are welcomed to volunteer their talents – whether it is performing Hawaiian music and hula, creating floral arrangements, assisting with office and administrative functions, or simply “talking story” and playing games with our residents. Larger community service projects may include painting portions of the facility or assisting in landscaping projects.

Hawaii State Art Museum

We are looking for enthusiastic, outgoing volunteers to assist museum visitors and help offer a greater understanding of the exhibitions currently on view. If you have an interest or background in the arts, we encourage you to volunteer.

Manoa Valley Theatre
From actors and crew members, to scene painters and ushers, every single one of our volunteers plays an important role. Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF)
Volunteering for the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) promises to be an exciting and memorable experience. As one of the largest film festivals in the world, HIFF brings together the film industry, local filmmakers, international stars, first-time actors, and film enthusiasts from all walks of life for our cinema and educational programming.
 
Hawaii Opera Theater
Some 300 volunteers help produce Opera and HOT productions throughout the year. If you would like to contribute your time, talent and energy to the arts, and enjoy spending time with creative, hard-working crews, consider joining the HOT volunteer network. Volunteers help with make-up, wigs, costumes, special events, note taking, hospitality and more.
 
808 Urban
